Bilingual Care
All groups use a bilingual system i.e. there is always one german educator as well as one english educator present throughout the day, to look after your children simultaneously, in two languages.
Bilingual Morning Circle
The morning circle is a part of the daily ritual at the kintergarden and is led both by the english-speaking and the german-speaking educator. The morning circle is a good time to discuss topics for the group, singing together, reading out stories and to specify the activities for the day.
An important component of the morning circle is SHOW & TELL. Here the children tell, both in english and german, of their own experiences, and show things that they brought along with them (e.g teddy bears, pictures, things they found, toys from home etc.) – things that are important to them – or they might ask questions which are important to them. SHOW & TELL promotes, among other things, both the linguistic development and the self-confidence and ability of the child to concentrate. Furthermore the children learn to listen to other children while they express their own thoughts uninterrupted.
Preparation for School
Often the term “preparatory school” is referred to or thought of, both by parents and educators, only as the year right before school starts for the five and six year olds.
In comparison to the above, our preparatory education takes into account the entire stay of your child at our bilingual kindergarten. Our educators see education as a unification of the head, heart and hands. This means the activation and purposeful promotion of all sensory perceptions in the following areas:
- Physical readiness for school (strong body, skillful hands)
- Emotional readiness for school (self-confident and sure)
- Social readiness for school (stable and secure in dealing with others)
- Ready to Learn (able and teachable)
- Mental readiness for school (curious and ready for input)
In our kindergarten we do not impart any examinable knowledge, nor are there separate subjects or grades. We consider ourselves a preparatory educational institution.
Early Musical Education
Music makes everything better. Children come into this world with an inherent musical ability. The child should develop skills to realize the unity of play, dance, imitation and movement oriented songs. Beyond that, the primary experiences such as self-development as well as self-manifestation of the child through mimic, gesture and movement must be made possible, by accompaniment (clapping, stamping etc.) and by the handling of elementary sound instruments. Early musical education is a regular part of our kindergarten program. In addition to this, the children also sing german and english songs.
